Create a Stylish Easter Table Design

For your lunch table this Easter, what could be more beautiful than this stunning design as centre stage, a handmade willow basket filled with fresh spring flowers...

Ingredients:

  • Waterproof container measuring approx. 30cm diameter and 15cm deep
  • Florist foam
  • Florist tape
  • Willow branches
  • Florist wire
  • A selection of spring bulb flowers, such as tulips, narcissi and daffodils

Method:

  • Soak the florist foam in a large bowl of water and cut to shape, placing into your waterproof container, ensuring it fits snugly.  Secure with florist tape, binding over and under the foam and container.
  • Wind the willow branches around the container until you have a dense design which completely covers the container, securing well with florist wire to finish.
  • Place your flowers firmly into the foam, being gentle with the stems as most will be relatively soft and will benefit from gentle pressure and holding close to the base.  Start from the centre with taller stems and gradually to the edges of the design lowering a little each time.
  • Finally look at your design from every side to ensure there are no gaps and place on your table, ready for your Easter lunch party.

To keep your flowers fresh, top up the container each day with cool water, ensuring the foam is never allowed to dry out, keeping your design in a cool spot.  As blooms start to fade, remove these and replace with simple foliage to prolong your design.

You can also create much smaller designs by using simple jam jars filled with water, winding the willow using the same method as above and creating small hand tied posies of spring flowers, placing into the jars.  Place these in a collection along a windowsill, down the centre of a table or on a bedside table to welcome your guests.

We would love to see your creations, please email images to enquiries@philippacraddock.com and we will display a selection on our Facebook page in the coming weeks.

Wishing everyone a very happy Easter!
