Making Content Creation Feel Natural (And Even Enjoyable!)

Can we talk about something that comes up in almost every conversation I have with creative business owners? That slightly panicked feeling when you think about all the content you "should" be creating - the social posts, the newsletters, the blogs, the reels... it can feel endless, can't it?

I remember sitting at my desk one evening, trying to write the perfect Instagram caption while also planning next week's newsletter and wondering how on earth I'd keep up with it all. That's when I realized something had to change. Today, I manage weekly newsletters, podcast episodes, journal posts, and social media content - and honestly? It feels manageable and even enjoyable.

The secret isn't in working harder or longer - it's in working smarter with systems that actually feel natural. Here's what transformed content creation for me:

  • First, I stopped trying to be everywhere. Instead of spreading myself thin across every platform, I focused on what really worked for my business and my audience. For us, that's our weekly newsletter as our core focus, supported by the podcast, journal posts, and Instagram. Everything else is a bonus, not a necessity.

  • Then I discovered the power of one core message. Each week, I choose one topic that I really want to share with my audience. That becomes a podcast episode, which naturally flows into journal posts, newsletter content, and social media updates. Instead of creating separate content for each platform, I'm sharing different aspects of the same valuable message.

  • Choose your weekly topic (I plan these quarterly, but with flexibility to change)

  • Create your core content piece first (for me, that's usually the podcast)

  • Break that content down into smaller pieces for different platforms

  • Add platform-specific elements (like visuals for Instagram or key takeaways for newsletters)

  • Keep a running list of topic ideas from client questions and conversations

Here's how this works in practice:

The real game-changer was realising that content creation doesn't have to be perfect - it needs to be valuable and genuine. Some weeks I might share more, others less, but it's always authentic rather than forced.

Another surprisingly effective approach? Let your content creation mirror how you naturally think and work. I love having conversations about business, so I often record voice notes of my thoughts and then transform them into written content. It feels so much more natural than staring at a blank page trying to write the perfect post.
