When Persistence Is Powerful (And When It's Not)

The strategy that leads to more yeses without the anxiety of feeling pushy or annoying

"Omg, I can't believe this exists. It's my favorite purchase ever already!"

DESIGN

for life

This is your main shop page and we've populated it with a number of different kinds of grids so you can find the one that works best for your brand.

You're a creative entrepreneur who believes in doing business with intention and care.

If you've ever sent a beautiful proposal, heartfelt email or taken time to carefully create a pitch, only to hear... nothing... this page is for you.

You're a creative business owner who cares deeply about your work. You put thought, intention, and genuine care into everything you create.

When you contact potential clients or collaborators or reply to ideal clients, you take time to write your messages carefully. You research. You personalise. You pour your heart into every communication.

And then... silence.

That silence hits differently when you've invested so much of yourself, doesn't it?
Here's the story silence tells us (and why it's usually completely wrong)
  • "They didn't like what I sent"
  • "I'm not good enough for them"
  • "They think I'm annoying"
  • "My work isn't what they're looking for"
  • "I've been blacklisted"

But here's what I know after building my first creative business from my kitchen table to 7-figures and creating designs for royal weddings, to supporting hundreds of creatives in their own businesses:

Silence almost never means what you think it means.

During a live Q&A within our online programme The Base Notes, one of the members shared a story, four years earlier she had sent 20 beautifully crafted cards to potential clients. Each one was researched, personalised and professionally printed. She never heard a single response.

And that silence dented her confidence so deeply that four years later, she still felt the sting.

I've felt that sting myself more times than I care to remember. The crushing feeling when you put yourself out there thoughtfully, only to be met with what feels like deafening silence.

But building my first creative business (a flower brand), from delivering bud vases to local pubs and restaurants, to creating the designs for Harry and Meghan's royal wedding, taught me something really important:

My Story of Learning Thoughtful Persistence

The most extraordinary opportunities often come from the follow-ups that felt the most vulnerable to send.

Our long standing collaboration with The Victoria & Albert Museum? Three years of follow ups.

Our partnership with the London department store Selfridges & Co? I was met with two years of no's... before an eventual yes.

The list goes on and on... almost all of my most successful and enjoyable client relationships started with silence that I almost interpreted as definite rejection.
After years of building relationships with some of the world's most prestigious organisations and private clients, and then going on to help hundreds of creative entrepreneurs build confidence in their own businesses, I've discovered the patterns that separate thoughtful persistence from pushiness and desperation.

This isn't about aggressive sales tactics or wearing people down.

Instead, this is all about understanding human psychology, business realities and how to build genuine, collaborative relationships that benefit everyone involved.

Why I Created This Guide

Inside this guide, you'll discover:
  • When Persistence Is Powerful (And When It's Not): The exact criteria that determine whether following up builds relationships or damages them
  • The Timeline of Thoughtful Persistence: Specific timeframes that respect boundaries while keeping opportunities alive
  • The Golden Rule of Follow-Up: The mindset shift that transforms follow-up from anxiety-inducing to relationship-building
  • Real-World Examples: Actual follow-up strategies that led to royal commissions, museum collaborations and premium client relationships
  • Ready-to-Use Templates: Copy-and-paste follow-up frameworks you can adapt for your unique situations
  • The Psychology Behind Silence: Why "no response" rarely means what creative entrepreneurs think it means

The Complete Thoughtful Persistence Framework

Without a framework for thoughtful persistence, you'll likely:
  • Misinterpret Silence: Continue believing that no response means rejection, missing opportunities that are actually just timing issues
  • Stay Stuck in Anxiety: Keep experiencing that crushing feeling every time you don't hear back, letting it damage your confidence
  • Miss Genuine Opportunities: Leave potential collaborations, dream clients, and career-changing projects on the table because you're afraid to follow up
  • Repeat the Painful Cycle: Continue putting yourself out there only to feel defeated by silence, gradually losing the courage to reach out to the opportunities you truly want

The Cost of Not Following Up Thoughtfully

The creative entrepreneurs who thrive aren't necessarily more talented... they're the ones who understand how to build relationships through thoughtful, persistent communication.
